Wundowie Iron Festival 2018
Our Visit To 2018 Wundowie Iron Festival
Saturday 20th October was the annual Wundowie Iron Festival where the town celebrates their unique Iron History. The town hall and oval come alive with art sculptures, photography and market stalls.
Wheatbelt Kids had a great time looking through the local stalls and produce, listening to the live band, and live demonstrations by the local emergency services.
Maddison’s favourite parts of the day were the Bubbleology, petting zoo and showbags.
Wundowie's Rich Iron History
In the early 1940s, visions for Wundowie took shape after exploring the potential for an iron and steel industry in Western Australia. Wundowie’s industrial legacy started on April 15, 1948, with the inauguration of the Wundowie Charcoal Iron and Steel mill. Though the mill ceased operations in 1981, Bradken continues to preserve Wundowie’s commercial heritage by utilising the foundry facilities.
